Claudia Kunath reviews the current popularity of tiles in LVT
Our Woods received a great reception from day one when we unveiled the ASPECTA FIVE range at Domotex Hannover, but what we are now also noticing is a significant increase in interest in our Tiles. It seems that LVT is taking market share from ranges of original stone and ceramic, in particular. Notably, this is especially the case in Spain and Italy where those formats are very strong.
Stone and ceramic floors indeed look terrific and really add style and atmosphere to a wide range of built environments - particularly retail, hospitality and corporate spaces. They do, however, also bring challenges – especially in areas of high footfall. Whereas LVT - which needs no grout - is very easy to maintain, is resistant to chipping and provides great underfoot comfort.
For our part, as a commercial product ASPECTA FIVE has a highly durable 3.2mm gauge, a wear layer of 0.7mm and Ceramic Bead finish. An added benefit of this lesser thickness is that during renovation, doors do not need to be cut. And if one tile is damaged, it can easily be replaced without disturbing the rest of the floor.
My feeling is that the aesthetic appearance of premium quality LVT Stones is now so appealing, that the category is extending its fan base and converting architects and designers who would previously have only considered genuine stone and ceramic options. At ASPECTA, we offer a great selection of colours and tones that are further enhanced by a three stage embossing process with 13 different designs. Two of my favourites are:
When paired with more austere materials, Pedona can create an exciting, unexpected look. Its layered markings of time effectively capture the feel of polished stone.
Washed Concrete imitates the smooth and porous surface of well-layered cement. This finely detailed ‘workhorse’ rendition finds its way into most interiors as the basic ground on which to build, with reference to natural elements and subtle washed colours both adding an extra dimension. Washed Concrete is available in an extra big tile size of 609,6mm x 609,6mm, offering even more versatility.
Stones have great scope from a design perspective, if you have any thoughts, do please email me at CKunath@Aspectaflooring.com – thank you.
